Painting the Italian Landscape: Views from the Uffizi

This exhibition is coming from the famed Uffizi Gallery of Florence, Italy, illustrating the evolution of landscape painting in Italy from its early roots as background settings in paintings of the 1500’s to its role as the main subject in paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Spectacles bring the world into focus. Their invention over seven hundred years ago was prompted by the need to correct the failings of the aging eye. Over the years, Spectacles are spectacular examples of their times and cultures. By exploring the many types of eyeglasses that have existed, we can observe an evolution of both technology and craftsmanship.

 

A Double-Edged Weapon: The Sword as Icon and Artifact

From the European knight to the Japanese samurai, from the Book of Genesis to Star Wars, the sword has held a unique fascination for people around the world.  The exhibition consists of some seventy artifacts, ranging from the medieval warrior to the modern Freemason, and from the time of the Trojan War to the twentieth century, including examples from such places as Montenegro, Kenya, and India.
